I'll be back

Hi,

I took December off for a few reasons. I'll be back in January (like every other dieter).

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Early Weigh-In Day

Early Weigh-In Day

Highest Weight: 257
Current Weight: 215.3
Loss this week: 0.9

I guess that's ok since I'm a day early. I'm going away this weekend and not bringing my scale :-)

My s-i-l and I are going to upstate new york for a 4 mile walk (for me) and 8 mile run (for her). We've wrapped it into a whole weekend of shopping. I'm excited - for the shopping. The walk should be ok, I'm just afraid I'll be the slowest one.

Wednesday night I woke up and my room was lit up. I heard shouting and since I live alone I was confused. I also was pretty sure it was still the middle of the night. I looked out the window into my townhouse complex and there were 3 firetrucks and 2 cop cars. No ambulance so I was pretty sure the guy who lives in the house across the street was ok. It was weird, I could see that firefighters were going through the house with flashlights. It was 3:30am.

It also snowed that night so I couldn't walk Thursday morning. I was too tired anyway. In the afternoon when I got home, my end of the complex was blocked off by cop cars. I gather there was a small fire in another house -- the fire guys had hoses across my lawn. Lots of excitement for a normally boring community.

I went to the gym and worked out hard with my trainer for 30 minutes (plus 20 on the treadmill). It was good.

Anyway...so much to do today...work & packing.

I'll post f I don;t get home too late Sunday night.

A lazy girl is an ugly grl...

I think my facialist called me ugly... more on that shortly.

Just a quick mid-week check-in. So far so good. Monday, Tuesday and today I went for an hours long walk in the freezing, wee hours of the morning.

Monday I ate well and went shopping after work. Boring day.

Yesterday I ate well and had a facial after work -- awesome. The facialist really focused on massage - my face, neck, shoulders, arms and hands. I was so relaxed. I almost didn't mind that within an hours, she called my skin: dry, oily, rough, dull, bumpy (?), and congested. Then, when quizzing me on my skincare routine, she told me that a "lazy girl will be an ugly girl". Ok, I admit I probably don't stick perfectly to the routine she likes - honestly though - cleanser, toner, moisturizer, serum, mask, scrub, eyecream... I'd take an hour every day! Not to mention I'd go broke. I did get talked into buying an $85 moisturizer.

Yesterday and today I had "Peanut Butter & Chocolate Pudding" for Breakfast. It's from the Simply Decadent cookbook. It's sooo filling (it's basically oats, sugar free hot chocolate and a little low fat peanut butter). It looks gross, but it's good.

For lunch, I had a Fireside Pie (too high in fat, but within my calorie limit and yummy) and some veggie/high fibre mix.

Dinner was Lean Cuisine Honey Mustard Chicken and corn. It looks like a honkin' load of corn, but it's one serving per the bag.

Anyway -- I'm off to work...

Santa's Here!

Today was a bizarre day diet-wise.

Let's start at the beginning...

I woke up and grabbed a Quaker Instant Brown Sugar and Maple Oatmeal. I grabbed a yogurt a couple hours later.
(260 calories)

At 9:30, I left to pick my friend's son up. The 2 of us headed downtown to the Santa Claus Parade. We met another friend their along with her little son and 2 clients (she's a social worker). It was freezing! I can't explain enough how cold it was. We sat down around 11 (thankfully we brought folding chairs). I was wearing a sweatshirt, fleece jacket and winter jacket. I bought my little friend cotton candy & fries & hot chocolate. I had a hot chocolate & half a slimfast bar (I was too cold to keep chewing)
(330 calories)

The parade was awesome - but cold! Did I mention how cold I was? They throw candy and treats at you - I ate one quarter of an oreo wafer bar.
(40 calories)

I was invited to my friend's family's for dinner, but couldn't do it. There would be a ton of kids there and I was just tired and cold and wanted to be in my nice warm house. I was dreaming of a Swiss Chalet Festive Special. If you don't like in Canada - it's a quarter chicken, side dish (I'd do salad or corn), cranberry, stuffing and chocolates! Yummy! I thought I had the calories to spare so I started dialling to order as soon as I walked it. Unbelievably it was closed! Jest the store near me -- they said it was too busy. On a Sunday night! Craziness!

So instead I had a frozen low fat barley risotto with chicken, corn and Green Giant's Fibre mix. It looked like a strange mix, but I needed the corn to round things out -- the risotto was strongly seasoned. I also had a few Omega 3 Rosemary and Olive oil crisps for crunch (I added them after the photo.

(610 hefty calories)

Sadly enough I also had 200 calories of snacks while watching tv.

All in all, not a horrible day food wise and I had fun. We did a little walking, but I need to admit the weekend went my with minimal exercise.

Back to it tomorrow!

Weigh-In day

Highest Weight: 257
Current Weight: 216.2
Loss this week: 3.2

I have memories of watching weight loss ads as a kid and seeing before and after shots. The subjects had always lost 30, 40 or 50 pounds. I remember thing, "wow, that's a lot" or "look how different they look". I never imagined I'd be faced with needing to lose 100 pounds.

So 3.2 pounds down this week. I'm happy with that -- I know 1-2 is more average. Still, I can't help but realize that I've lost 40 pounds and don't really look or feel all that different. Sure, my clothes are a little looser - really more on top (my waist), but it's not like anyone other than my closest friends have said anything. I think the fact they know how hard I'm trying nulls their comments. That said, I don't really want strangers or coworkers making comment - I guess I'm being a typical, hard-to-please girl.

Oh well, off to start my weekend. Ate a Bagelful and am planning the food for the rest of he day. I'm going to visit my Granny then off to a movie with my mom. I'll bring my own food to the movie (lunch),

Will blog about the whole weekend tomorrow.

what a week

Sorry for taking a couple days off blogging. I've been so busy and so tired.

Exercise:
This has been a really good week diet-wise. Monday to Wednesday I got up at 6am to go for an hour long walk. Actually, I got up this morning too, but it was raining so I watched TV *blush*. I did go to the gym though - 20 minutes on the elliptical before 30 minutes with my trainer. I did so many squats I may not be able to walk tomorrow.

Food:
I've been having sandwiches -- very rare for me. I never buy sandwich stuff. I don't really no why, other than the fact that as a single person I have to eat the whole loaf before it goes bad and I get sick of the same sandwich. Regardless, I've enjoyed this week's sandwiches very much. I did have a few too many snacks Monday, but ate within my calories. Tuesday I saw a movie and brought my own sandwich (dinner) and snack. I ate very well yesterday. Today was tricky as we had a pizza lunch at work. I choose the veggie option and only had 2 small squares - no idea on the calorie amount though.

Life in General:
Like I said, busy week...sadly, it's mainly been work. Monday I went to my parents for dinner. They just came back from vacation. We ordered Swiss Chalet Festive Specials! I had mine with a salad (instead of their super-yummy fries). I wish I could find the nutritional info for their stuffing. I shared the chocolates with my friend Jenn and her son. Later in the evening we went vacuum shopping (for Jenn). Tuesday was the movie - Madagascar 2 - again with Jenn and her kids. It was ok. Last night I was a little stressed from work, so I stayed in.

Anyway - that's it for now. I'll post on the weekend - some pics too! Saturday is weigh-in day. I'm so curious!

Attack of the giant cupcakes

I mean, seriously -- who brings cupcakes like this to a chubby girl's house? My talented and beautiful friend Kelsey - that's who. More on that later...

This weekend was okay. I had a small issue with some pink M&Ms, but all in all, it wasn't bad.

Yesterday was a day of errands and cleaning. I ate at home which is rare for a weekend day. For lunch I had a Smart Ones "Broccoli and Chicken Pasta Thing" (not it's real name). I had some yummy sugar free chocolate pudding. Together they were just 350 cals and very filling. I didn't feel like a mid-afternoon snack.

Dinner was a test of the sandwich ingredients I purchased for today's baby shower and 100 cals of pretzels. I also discovered that pickles - which I never buy - are crazy low in calories. I knew they weren't high, but this 1/4 dill was 5 or something - barely worth calculating.
Bread: 2 slices for 120 - awesome
Cheese: Light Marble - 60 cals each = 120
Lean Turkey & Ham - I guessed about 100 as it was sliced at the deli counter so I didn't have the details. So the meal was 450 including the pretzels.

Today was the baby shower. My friend Melissa is due at the end of the month. We had just a small girls-only get together for her as the big, co-ed shower was last month. We were at my house and the theme was "Think Pink" as she's having a girl. We did some cheesy mad libs that made me laugh so hard my eye burned and just chatted. Our last get together before parenthood strikes our little group.

I'm 31, but only have a small handle of friends who have kids. I think that's all going to change in the next couple of years. I love kids and hope my friends include me in things still even though I'm the single girl.

So, food for today:
Breakfast:
Bagelful 200 cals

Snack:
Activia Vanilla Yogurt and 100 cal peanut granola bar

Party:
Far too many pink M&Ms 200 cals
Sandwich - repeat of last night 340 cal
veggies & hummus - 100 cals
gigantic pink cupcake - 400 cals?

If I tallied/guessed correctly, I'm around 1500 for the day. Not bad. I'm happy my skinny/healthy friends were good with the healthier than normal food (even with the cupcakes and M&Ms). We didn't do any fancy cheeses, chips or other finger foods. There was punch, but I stuck to water.

Goal for this week:
EXERCISE
I've really been bad this week. My alarm is set for 6am, so I'll be up bright and early (well, it will be dark and early). I also have my trainer tomorrow night.

I'm not sure if anyone had stumbled across this blog yet, but after a week of writing it, I'm kind of liking feeling obliged to report my progress...

Have a good Monday!

Weigh-In day

Highest Weight: 257
Current Weight: 219.4
Loss this week: 2.6

So it's not that I'm not happy with losing 2.6 pounds this week, it's just that a few weeks ago I was 218. I had a couple of REALLY bad weeks, but I was kinda hoping to get back to 218. Oh well, we'll see what happens next week.

Yesterday was the hardest day for me of the week. Thursday night I was supposed to go to the gym, but my trainer called to say there were some fumes and it was not safe to work-out. Instead of taking advantage of the unusually warm weather, I did nothing. I guess that got me out of my pattern a bit and not only did I not exercise yesterday, I figure I went over my calorie goal by about 600. :-(

The GOOD news...I went shopping! I'm officially a size 18 and bought work pants in a "normal" store. Of course, most "normal" stores only go to 14 or 16, but it still felt great. I also bought a burgundy v neck sweater, purple sweater vest & beige/gold sweater/fooler shirt (sweater that looks like it has a satiny blouse underneath).

I also bought a new winter coat. It's dark, dark, grey wool. It's cute. It's a 16, but in did up and didn't look too tight although it's quite snug when I sit. It was 40% off and I figure that even if it only really fits by January, it was a good deal.

I love shopping -- but need to stop buying things before Christmas. My poor credit card.

Anyway, I'll post today's meals etc... later...

Getting Ready

So it's 2pm and I home for the day. I still have some work to do, but I'll probably wait till later. My presentation went okay. My boss and boss's boss kept interrupting which was making me nervous. The kept adding detail that was to be discussed later. Oh well, at least it's done.

No exercise yet today. I was too nervous for my presentation to go for my walk. I don't blowdry my hair (as it just frizzes out - I prefer to let it air-dry), and I was concerned about showing up to presentation with wet hair. I'd have to wash it later in the morning you see...

Anyway onto the food:
Breakfast:
Strawberry Bagelful
Yogurt
Banana
Total - 380 cals

Lunch:
A turkey/ham wrap at work (was brought in for the presentation - I usually don't get food at work - this was just a weird week)
I'm guess this was 450 cals - it was quite big and had mayo on it -- still the healthiest looking one I could find

Snack:
Praeventia dark chocolate cookies - 150 cals
I couldn't help myself - I skipped dessert at lunch even though they looked soo good - there was nothing small and I'm too self conscious to cut one in half - silly I know. I really wanted a treat.

Has anyone tried the Praeventia cookies -- crazy good!

http://www.praeventia.ca/en/

Anyway -- I have a little cleaning to do before some shopping.

Did I mention I'm having a baby shower here Sunday?

Happy Friday!

The day of half sandwiches

I've had a good day and a half since I last updated. I went out with my friend Hilary last night and had a great time. Although I said the restaurant listed some calorie contents -- they changed the menu! I had the chicken-hummus wrap. It was loaded with veggies. I ate only half. It had a star next to it indicating it was a healthy choice so I hope it was.

Today was an odd food day. I started with a non-fat, no whip mocha from Starbucks (tall - 160 cals). I had a breakfast meeting which usually means pastries. I ended up wth half a whole wheat bagel with full fat cream cheese. The bagel was huge, so I'm guess the half bagel was about 300 calories? I also had a bunch of grapes.

Lunch was also a work thing. They brought sandwiches in and I chose the one that looked like it had no mayo. It was chicken breast & avocado on white. I'm hoping it wasn't too bad. Again, I had just half & had some side veggies. I skipped the dips and dressing-laden salads, but did have a tiny square of iced brownie. OMG - so good!

Dinner was the second half of last night's chicken-hummus wrap. Still Yummy. It didn't fill me up though and I ate two hundred calorie snack packs. The plan was to have a yogurt, oh well.

Now that I've written it all out, it doesn't look so great. I'm going to look on the bright side though -- it was a way better day than I would have done a few months ago!

Anyway, I'm actually not looking forward to tomorrow. I have a huge presentation to give and am quite nervous -- wish me luck!

"Working" from Home

Today I'm at home. I have a bunch of conference calls and a presentation to prepare. When I work from home, I usually spread out my work day - so it's longer, but I take more breaks (like now).

Yesterday was good. I ate within my calories and got in the exercise I wanted.

Breakfast 7am:
This week's usual - Rice Krispies, Banana, Milk and Light Chocolate Syrup. It's less than 300 calories & yummy.

Snack: Cheesestring (70 calories)

Lunch 12pm:
Sheppard's pie. It's a prepared, frozen type. I usually do the reduces fat version, but the regular was on sale and the calories weren't substantially more so I thought it would be okay. I'm regretting it a little as the fat content is high (20g). I have 4 or so servings left in the freezer.

Dinner 5pm:
Lean Cuisine Cannelloni with Green Giant Essentials anti-oxidant blend and frozen corn. This worked well - I was full, it looked healthy and tasted great!

Add Image

Snack 7pm:
After-dinner snacking has always been a problem. I had a big dinner, but instead of my typical calorie-empty snack of a few hundred snack packs, I had a bagel and peanut butter. It alone was almost 400 calories (more than dinner!), but satisfied me (and was within my calorie limit). I'm just looking at it like I had 4 small meals.

I know I have to work on some nutritional issues. Namely:
  • Sodium (I track on the daily plate and I'm usually too much over the daily allowance, but I know I could easily reduce my intake by cooking as opposed eating prepared/frozen meals.
  • Fruit and veggie intake. I did better yesterday than normally. I'm embarrassed to think about the number of days I had where I haven't consumed any fruits or veggies
  • More protein/less fat
My focus for the short term -- at least until I get below 200 - is to stay under 1600 cals per day and to intentionally exercise at least 6 hours a week. Baby steps, I guess.

Today I've already been for a 5 to 6km walk! It took an hour and half though. I ate the Rice Krispies blend again. I'll have to plan out the rest of the day as I'm going out to dinner. Thankfully, I'm going to the Pickle Barrel. They have a healthy option menu that lists calories for a few items (rare in Canada).

Anyway, I have to get back to work :)

No more birthdays!

That's it...I'm done birthdays - well till Dec. 22 anyway. I've had a crazy stretch of like 6 birthdays in 3 weeks. It's tiring. My extended family is getting sick of each other too. My best friend's sister and hubby had a huge blow-up in the middle of dinner. Then my BF thought it would be a good idea to light sparklers for the kids indoors -- let's just say she lit fire to the house before the kids even got to see the sparklers.

Anyway...I did ok with food, but had no exercise yesterday. I had a very small piece of bday cake (an inside piece so I'd have less icing).

It's 7:45 this morning and I've already been for my hour walk so I'm off to a better start. Had the same breakfast as yesterday.

More later...

Monday Morning

So...it's only 7:45, so I don't want to write the day off yet, but I didn't get off to the greatest start. I set my alarm for 6 ( like I try to do a few times a week), so I could go for a walk. It was raining though, so I went back to bed. I know I could have walked in the rain, but it's cold and still pitch black at 6 and I just didn't want to do it.

I don't know how I'll fit in exercise today now. I'm off to work shortly and the straight to a b-day party tonight. It's for a kid and the menu is spaghetti, meatballs and cake. I'm going to try and resist the cake and eat low cal the rest of the day.

For breakfast I had:
single serve box of Rice Krispies
small banana
1/2 cup 1% milk
1 tbsp light chocolate syrup (just for fun)

I'll be hungry in a hour, so I'm going to bring a snack pack of full fat cheese (90 cal) and a fruit cup for snack. I think I'll do a slimfast bar for lunch (rare that I do this).

Anyway, have to run now. Have a good day!

Day 1 (again)

Hi!

So, everyone tells me things that happen in my life are funny and that I need to write them down. I enjoy reading weight loss blogs & I'm thinking that it might be fun to have my own. It will basically be a lifestyle blog - with an emphasis on food & exercise since that often dominates my life.

My dream is that one day, somebody will be searching for a motivational blog and come across mine. Maybe you're reading this in a year or so and I've included awesome before and after shots of me! Maybe you're reading this and I'm still struggling with losing weight. Either way, I hope you enjoy what I write!

So...although I've started blogging today, I haven't had the greatest day.

Excercise - none

Food - well, it's only 4:30 and I overeat at night, but I'm on track for my 1600 calorie goal (I track on dailyplate.com)

Be well,

Angie
